Intake Procedure:Before calling, the woman must ensure that her phone can accept blocked calls. If she is unable to turn off this feature on her phone, she will need to give the Fund another number that does accept blocked calls, such as an office or a friend’s phone. Call the Fund toll free at 617-354-3839 or 1-866-354-3839. When a woman calls, she will need to leave a message in the voicemail. In the message, tell the Fund if it is okay for volunteers to leave a message when returning the call, if there is a specific phone number and time the Fund should call back, and whether it is safe for to receive a call from a male volunteer. An EMA volunteer will call back within 48 hours of receiving the message. If a woman does not hear from the Fund within 48 hours, she should call back. When she does, let the Fund know if a volunteer can leave a message and if there is a good time to call. When a woman talks to an EMA volunteer, they will ask her some personal questions – about her finances, job, living situation, and pregnancy. This information will help the volunteer understand her circumstances and work with her to figure out the best ways to find the money needed for her abortion. A Fund volunteer may ask about a woman's immigration status. This information will help the Fund determine whether she qualifies for state insurance and will not be shared with government agencies or anyone other than Fund volunteers, if necessary, and the woman's chosen provider. It is EMA’s policy to keep names and other identifying information strictly confidential.
For women coming to MA from other states, EMA strongly prefers that a Fund in that state contact them, rather than the woman herself.
